PHILADELPHIA (October 14, 2024) — Moore College of Art & Design announced today that it is expanding its academic offerings to include a new major, Entertainment Design, and two exciting new minors, Fashion Merchandising and Art Therapy. Moore students can enroll in the Entertainment Design major and the Art Therapy and Fashion Merchandising minors in Fall 2025.
Entertainment Design is one of the fastest-growing fields in art and design. This interdisciplinary major blends coursework from Moore majors such as Animation & Game Arts, Graphic Design, Film & Digital Cinema, and Interior Design to meet the growing needs of the creative industry. Students enrolled in this major focus on creating immersive experiences through interactive design in sectors such as museums, theme parks, concert venues and more.
“Moore’s new Entertainment Design curriculum will not only help students develop skills in a booming field, but it will also uphold the cultivation of creativity and curiosity that the College prides itself on,” said Claudine Thomas, Chief Academic Officer, Moore College of Art & Design. “This combination of traditional coursework and experiential learning outside of the classroom will allow Moore to become one of the expert educators in this discipline.”
The Fashion Merchandising minor is an expansion of Moore’s Fashion Design BFA program. Alongside existing minors in fashion including Textile Design, Fashion Merchandising will teach students about the dynamic business of fashion. Anchored by courses such as Fashion Buying and Merchandising, Omnichannel Marketing and Trend Forecasting, students will learn to revolutionize the fashion industry and positively affect the global fashion value chain.
Students who choose the Art Therapy minor at Moore will explore creative expressions to support growth and wellness. As they establish an understanding of art therapy as a professional field of study, they will also learn the emotional, social, intellectual and physical phases of development in school-aged children while studying real-world activities and techniques used in this practice.
As the only independent art and design college in Philadelphia, Moore is committed to deepening its academic offerings and remaining at the forefront of art and design education. Through personalized attention from expert faculty, hands-on studio experiences, and professional development through engaging internship opportunities and co-ops, the College is continuing its comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to creative learning.
“Since its founding 175 years ago, Moore has distinguished itself as a barrier-breaking leader in art and design education. We’re recognizing the changes in the market and are expanding our Bachelor of Fine Arts programs and minors to meet that demand,” said Cathy Young, President, Moore College of Art & Design. “We believe a Moore education reflects the modernization happening across creative industries. By bringing the most relevant teachings and techniques to our students, we continue to assert ourselves as an incubator of innovation in art and design.”
