Yes! To ensure students feel prepared for class, all required art supplies should be purchased before the first day. A complete supply list is included in each course description.
Classes meet Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–4:00 pm, and all courses take place in person unless otherwise noted. Our campus is located at 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Throughout the day, students dive into hands-on artmaking, guided instruction, creative problem-solving, and individual or small-group projects. They’ll explore new techniques, develop their personal style, and receive one-on-one feedback from their instructor.

Students in the Young Artists Workshop have several convenient choices for lunch and snacks during their day on campus. They are welcome to bring lunch from home, or they may purchase food from our on-campus Starbucks Café, vending machines, or the Dining Hall (view daily menus).
Students purchasing lunch can pay by credit/debit card at the Starbucks Café or use a meal voucher purchased in advance from the Art Shop before choosing their items. We recommend budgeting around $10 per day for on-campus meals.
Friends & Family Day takes place on Fridays from 3:00–4:00 pm. Loved ones are invited to visit the classroom, observe student work in progress, participate in final critiques, and help celebrate each student’s achievements from the week.

Learn the fundamentals of digital animation by transitioning from hand-drawn character designs to industry-standard digital tools! Focus on concept, character development, and world building while refining your skills to bring your creative ideas to life. In-person participants can take advantage of Moore’s Cintiq Labs, using cutting-edge technology to effortlessly create stories through animations.

Understanding human anatomy is an essential part of learning how to draw accurate body proportions. If you love drawing human bodies and forms realistically and want to further develop your skills, this is the class for you! Focus on 2D mediums and learn how to draw the human form through structures of skeletons, muscles and varying body types to create detailed masterpieces. Calling all future fashion designers! In this course you will design and illustrate your own fashion designs and concepts while learning about color theory, fabric types, and garment construction. By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of original designs with a unique viewpoint that will be ready to come to life when you learn how to sew and construct in Fashion II!

Graphic designers are the architects of visual communication, blending art and technology to tell powerful stories. Step into the vibrant canvas of nature! Venture outdoors for thrilling field sketching exercises, where you'll breathe life into your artwork amidst the wonders of the plant and wildlife kingdom. Students will learn the fundamentals of botanical illustration, including plant anatomy, composition, and the use of various artistic techniques. With a focus on plants and flowers, students will engage in both traditional and digital illustration methods, honing their skills in sketching, shading, and color application.

Did you know that acrylic paint is one of the most accessible mediums for developing artists to learn the core concepts of painting? Go beyond TikTok and learn to share your story as the world's next big filmmaker! Filmmaking 101 is an introductory course that covers the basics of creating a film, including scriptwriting, cinematography, sound design, editing, and film theory. Students will write, film, and produce their own short films. This course emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, providing the skills needed to bring a film from concept to completion. Whether for future careers or personal passion, Filmmaking 101 is the perfect start to exploring the world of filmmaking.

Deepen your understanding of the figure and round out your portfolio in this essential multidisciplinary course. Illustrators, animators and fine artists are encouraged to take this class to practice large-scale figurative works and a learn a 3D approach to the human form. Students will get an in-depth overview of how to depict the human form based on bone and muscular structure. This course is the perfect next step for a student who has completed or is currently enrolled in Anatomy I or students advanced in figurative drawing. This course introduces students to the basics of working with clay through hand building to create vessels like vases, bowls, plates and more! Explore endless artistic possibilities through the historic lens of photography! Start your creative timeline learning this history of and practice of film photography, before delving into digital photography and photo editing. Increase your understanding of how to compose compelling images through the camera’s lens and gain skills in aesthetics, camera functions, film development, darkroom printing and Photoshop basics. PLUS we will provide you with a 35mm film camera for the session!

Dive into the exciting world of product design in this engaging and hands-on course! Students will explore the entire product design process, from ideation to prototyping, with an emphasis on creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Along the way, you'll explore the secrets behind successful product designs, learning how to apply those principles to your own creations. Through a series of projects and activities, learn how to create detailed sketches, digital renderings, and physical prototypes, allowing you to visualize and refine your designs throughout the entire design process. Deepen your understanding of the professional field of animation and game arts in our capstone Animation & Game Arts course for youth. This course is focused on concept, character development, world building and strengthening college application portfolio submissions. If you are interested in applying for Moore's Animation & Game Arts BFA program, this course will prepare you and your portfolio for application season while you develop your creative network. This course is also a great fit for those of you looking to take the next step in building your animation, illustration and game design skills. In-person participants will have the unique opportunity to utilize Moore's Cintiq Labs to create animations with ease using approachable state-of-the-art tools.
