On Thursday, April 25, Moore students, families and friends gathered in Graham Auditorium for Honors Convocation and the presentation of the annual Senior Awards.
The event featured remarks from President Cathy Young, Chief Academic Officer and Academic Dean Claudine Thomas, Dean of Students Dr. Josh Wilkin and the chairs of Moore’s academic departments. They each highlighted the remarkable talent, passion and creativity displayed by each award winner and honors student.
Graphic Design major Dan Callahan was named valedictorian for the Class of 2024. The Happy Fernandez Senior Award was given to Animation & Game Arts major Helen Vo, while the Marian Locks Senior Award was granted to Illustration major Leah Stein. All three seniors will be honored during Moore's 175th Commencement on May 11 at the Kimmel Center.
“We are here to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Moore scholars and artists of whom we are so very proud,” Young said. “You have aspired to the highest standard of excellence, and you have achieved this goal through your dedication and perseverance. The ambition and work ethic you have demonstrated throughout your time at Moore will serve you well as you launch your careers and take your place in the world.”
In addition to the awards given out each year, an anonymous gift was also made to the College to honor 10 students who “demonstrated the outstanding, pioneering spirit of Marian Locks.” The gift, which is meant support seniors as they explore new career paths after graduation, was distributed to Elyse Calder, Rene Rio, Aliyah Milbourne, Charlie Cornell, Helen Vo, Dae McComas, Erin Parks, Ryan Harris, Tania Crowell and Lauren Balogh.
