I like to work on projects that can go on for the long run. Projects that can be remembered, so someone can go: “Hey! Remember [x]?”
Graphic novels are a treasure to me. They’re a time capsule of memories that I hold dear to me, especially my first completed graphic novel, Back to Life. When I was working on it, I was constantly taking reference photos and having fun with it. My friends would chip in, as we would all pose for these dramatic angles and faces. We were never afraid of taking risks to do the most extreme reference photos. It was fun!
As I worked day and night with my thesis, I realized I slowly grew into a better and stronger artist. My anatomy skills, world-building, character development and my passion flourished. Considering that what I want to do is tell stories and illustrate them, it’s what I needed to learn and my thesis really made that shine. I originally drew my thesis in a more childlike, cartoon-y art style. I changed it two months in. I went out of my comfort zone and I don’t regret it.
