Moore College of Art & Design mourns the passing of former President Barbara Gillette Price, an accomplished artist, educator and arts leader whose influence extended across classrooms and creative community around the world.

A Philadelphia native, Gillette Price built a distinguished career spanning more than six decades as a painter, designer and arts administrator. Her work was exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, and her commitment to arts education helped shape generations of creative thinkers.

As president of Moore from 1994 to 1998, Gillette Price guided the College during a period of growth and transformation. Her leadership reflected a deep belief in the power of art and design to enrich lives, inspire new perspectives and create meaningful change.

Before joining Moore, Gillette Price held leadership positions at art institutions including Cranbook Academy of Art, where she served as dean, and the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she served as vice president for academic affairs. Throughout her career, she championed innovation in arts education, expanded international opportunities for students and strengthened connections between artists and their communities.

Gillette Price remained a dedicated artist throughout her life. Her paintings, works on silk and digital collages explored themes shaped by her experience s in the United States and abroad, particularly during the years she spent living and working in Spain.

Her legacy lives on through the institutions she helped strengthen, the students she inspired and the vibrant body of artistic work she leaves behind. Moore remembers her with gratitude and honors her many contributions to the arts and arts education.
