Philadelphia, PA — Game Changers, Moore’s annual event featuring women who work in animation and gaming, is back, featuring Oscar-nominated animator Ru Kuwahata. Kuwahata will speak November 13, 6–7 pm, in Moore's Graham Auditorium, located at 1916 Race Street. Since 2007, Kuwahata has collaborated with Max Porter as the directorial duo Tiny Inventions. Their films have screened in over 900 festivals around the world, including Sundance Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, and Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Their most recent short, Negative Space (2017), was nominated for the 90th Academy Awards and has garnered 130 prizes. They are currently developing their first feature film, Dandelion Seed, which has been supported by the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab, Torino Script Lab, Rooftop Filmmakers Fund, NEF Animation, The Animation Workshop and West Danish Film Fund.
Born in Japan, Ru Kuwahata is an Oscar-nominated animation director. Specializing in mixed-media narratives, she is particularly interested in marrying analogue and digital animation techniques, often combining handcrafted art, CG animation, drawn animation, stop-motion and photographic effects. She currently lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island.
