Bringing more than 40 up-and-coming professional artists to the College, Moore College of Art & Design hosted its third annual Comics Expo on April 11, 2026. Free and open to the public, the event offered Moore students insight on careers in comics and provided a forum for exhibiting creators to display and sell their work.
The creativity on view was relevant to multiple majors at Moore: “Comics sit at the intersection of storytelling, design and motion. Our Comics Expo is a natural extension of Moore’s interdisciplinary approach across Animation & Game Arts, Illustration and beyond,” said Stephen Wood, chair of Time/Motion Arts and associate professor of Animation & Game Arts.

This year’s event featured a presentation by cartoonist and illustrator Christine Larsen, who spoke about their career path. Larsen, a former adjunct professor of sequential art and comics at University of the Arts, has created art for comics, book covers, stories, posters and websites. They previously worked with clients such as Cartoon Network, Simon & Schuster, Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics and IDW Publishing.
The Comics Expo makes Moore an annual hub for the field of comics.
“The event is quickly becoming a very meaningful tradition, creating consistency and visibility for comics and illustration within Philly’s creative ecosystem,” said Richard Harrington, program head of Illustration at Moore and Philadelphia Sketch Club board member.
