PHILADELPHIA (August 14, 2025)—Moore College of Art & Design (“Moore”) has officially opened the doors to Rittenhouse Hall, its newest student residence. Overlooking iconic Rittenhouse Square, the acquisition at 1831 Chestnut Street reflects the College’s financial health and its strategic shift to guaranteed housing for students for all four years of a Moore education.
An uncommon benefit among urban art and design colleges, guaranteed housing ensures students have continued access to high-quality living spaces throughout their college journey. Higher education data is clear that the ability to live on campus improves student outcomes, including retention and graduation rates. Alongside Moore’s two other student residences, Rittenhouse Hall will provide a student experience that fully integrates Philadelphia into campus life.
Rittenhouse Hall offers Moore students a rare opportunity to live in one of the city’s most sought-after neighborhoods, just a seven-minute walk from Moore’s campus and in secure surroundings. The thoughtfully designed, turn-of-the-century residence features high-end finishes and modern amenities in a central cultural location.
"Rittenhouse Hall is part of a bold shift in how we support our students. By guaranteeing housing for all four years, we are eliminating a major source of uncertainty in the college journey and replacing it with stability, security and opportunity,” said Cathy Young, president, Moore College of Art & Design. “A residential college experience builds confidence and independence that stay with students long after graduation, shaping how they navigate their careers and contribute to the creative economy.”
Rittenhouse Hall underscores Moore’s commitment to providing a top-notch environment where artists and designers can grow academically and professionally, all while immersed in the city's rich and ever-evolving arts scene. Student housing grants apply to residence at Rittenhouse Hall, where flexible meal plans and room types offer costs comparable to Moore’s other residence halls.
Thanks to its central location near famous landmarks, public transit, shops, galleries and green spaces, Rittenhouse Hall strengthens students’ connection to Philadelphia’s cultural core and makes the neighborhood an extension of campus. By blending upscale housing with accessibility and safety, Moore is reimagining what it means to live and learn in the heart of the city.
