PHILADELPHIA (June 5, 2026)—The Galleries at Moore College of Art & Design will present four new exhibitions this summer, bringing together sculpture, craft, alumni achievement and reflections on American identity during the nation’s semiquincentennial celebrations in Philadelphia. Together, the exhibitions highlight the enduring impact of handmade practices, material exploration and artistic storytelling across generations.
All into One, presented by Philadelphia Sculptors, marks the debut of a newly expanded format and an evolution of the organization’s long-running exhibition 5 into 1. While continuing its mission of showcasing the sculptures and artworks of emerging artists from collegiate art programs, the exhibition now includes representatives from schools across the city and its surrounding regions beyond the five original participating schools.
The exhibition highlights the local diversity and versatility of practice within the field of sculpture and three-dimensional arts. With a 26-year history, All into One places this year’s participating artists within a broader spectrum of contemporary sculpture, connecting them to an ongoing legacy of emerging creative voices in Philadelphia and the neighboring region.
Art Quilters Celebrate Independence is a juried touring exhibition featuring work by Studio Art Quilt Associates of Pennsylvania, created in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States. Premiering at Moore before traveling to additional venues across eastern Pennsylvania, the exhibition features 39 innovative art quilts exploring themes of independence, democratic values, human rights and freedom of expression. While rooted in reflections on America’s history, the exhibition also highlights bold conceptual and technical departures from tradition, affirming the art quilt as an evolving contemporary art form.
Moore’s 2026 Juried Alumni Biennial is presented as part of the nationwide initiative Handiwork: Celebrating American Craft 2026, organized by Craft in America in honor of the semiquincentennial. Featuring work by Moore alumni across generations and disciplines, the exhibition celebrates the enduring importance of handmade practices and material innovation. The works on view encompass clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood and mixed media, ranging from functional and wearable pieces to sculptural and conceptual work.
The exhibition was juried by Leila Cartier ’04, executive director of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Cartier earned her BFA in Art History and Studio Art from Moore and previously served as executive director of CraftNOW Philadelphia.
Homecoming presents a body of wall-based sculptures by Laura Petrovich-Cheney MFA ’11. Working with salvaged architectural wood—including siding, cabinet doors and floorboards, some originally sourced from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy—Petrovich-Cheney cuts and reassembles weathered materials into compositions inspired by quilt-making traditions. Through an intuitive process of sorting, testing and arranging, the artist transforms discarded remnants into sculptural works that reflect on home, labor, environmental change and resilience through a feminist lens.
True to its name, Homecoming marks a return to Philadelphia for the artist, whose work has been exhibited nationally in solo and group exhibitions at the International Quilt Museum, Fuller Craft Museum, Toledo Museum of Art and elsewhere. Petrovich-Cheney has received grants and fellowships from organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Park Service.
