Residence Halls

Residence life at Moore provides a convenient and collaborative environment where students from diverse majors, backgrounds and cultures can learn from one another and support each other as they advance through their college years.

At Moore, we guarantee housing to our Fall 2025 students for the entirety of your undergraduate education. And as a new full-time undergraduate student at Moore, you are required to live in the residence halls for the first two years.

We offer on-campus housing in three residence halls: Rittenhouse Hall, Sartain Hall, and Louise Stahl Residence Hall (a.k.a. Stahl Hall). Rittenhouse Hall is the newest addition to our selection of student housing options—located at 1831 Chestnut Street and just seven minutes' walk to campus, the building features luxury apartment style one- two- and three-bedroom units primarily for juniors and seniors. Sartain Hall, located at 2039 Cherry Street, is a block away from Moore's main buildings and contains single, double and quadruple rooms, with community-style bathroom facilities. Stahl Hall is adjacent and connected to Moore's campus at 1916 Race Street and houses students in suites of two bedrooms with newly renovated bathrooms (with a few triple occupancy rooms).

Several residence hall lounges are available for use by all students, even commuters. In Stahl Hall, the student lounge is located in the penthouse above the 5th floor, which can be accessed by taking the elevator in Stahl Hall to the 5th floor and walking up the remaining flight of stairs. Lounge facilities include a kitchenette, televisions with cable hookup and study stations. In Sartain Hall, students can use the lounge on the first floor, which has a pool table and cable television.

On-campus housing lasts for the entire academic year and charges are payable in advance by the semester. All residence halls have 24-hour security coverage and may be accessed by students 24 hours a day when the halls are open.

Resident Assistants and Resident Directors can be found in both halls. These experienced Moore students are knowledgeable about the College and its resources. They are trained to help with students' day-to-day concerns, manage emergencies and serve as links to the Student Affairs staff.

Two-Year Residency Requirement

The residence halls at Moore College of Art & Design provide a holistic experience for students to be connected to one another, have easy access to studios throughout the day/evening, and foster relationships and collaborations that build lifetime skills with your artistic community of fellow residents. New this year and in response to our students’ needs, Moore guarantees housing availability for all 4 years for undergraduate students. As a residential college, we provide personal support to students through social interactions, robust programming, art-making, celebratory events, and leadership opportunities to provide a greater sense of belonging.

Living on campus has been shown to help students become more connected to each other and the College, and successfully navigate the academic rigors and social experiences unique to college life. Students who live at Moore are 8% more likely to graduate than those students living off campus. Therefore, full-time undergraduate students are required to reside in College-operated housing for their first two years at Moore College of Art and Design unless approved by the Housing Review Committee after completing the Residence Requirement Exemption Form. Students will be eligible for commuter status if their permanent address, as stated in their official College Record, is within a 10-mile radius of the College.

Housing Exemption Reasons

Students may request an exemption from Moore’s Residency Program by contacting our Director for Housing & Residence Life, Rose Apostolakis at rapostolakis@moore.edu. Housing exemptions are approved for the following reasons:

  • Commuter Status – Students whose permanent address is within a 10-mile radius from 19103 zip code living with a college-listed parent or legal guardian
  • Age Requirement – Students who are age 22 and over
  • Transfer Students – Students matriculating to Moore as a junior/senior
  • Married or Domestic Partnership – Students who are legally married or in a recognized domestic partnership

Requests for an exemption must be received by the following deadlines for consideration. Requests received after these published deadlines may still be reviewed in extraordinary circumstances.

  • At time of deposit: For potential release from fall semester housing
  • November 2025: For potential release from spring semester housing (only new entering/new transfer students for spring 2026)
