Since 2003, Moore has presented the Visionary Woman Awards to women who have had major impacts in their creative fields, exemplifying excellence and leadership in the arts, arts advocacy, and/or philanthropy. The College and its exceptional community benefits immensely from the insights and involvement of these nationally and internationally known luminaries.
The annual event is the most important one-night scholarship fundraising effort at Moore, with proceeds supporting Moore's prestigious Visionary Honors Program. Visionary Honors Scholars are a select group of undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential, and the program provides them with tools and real-world skills to hone their talents and to pursue successful careers in the art and design fields.
This year, Moore is proud to honor groundbreaking alumna Karen Daroff '70, president and design principal of Daroff Design Inc, internationally recognized designer and business owner and an esteemed graduate of Moore.

Karen Daroff, president and design principal at Daroff Design Inc + DDI Architects, is an internationally-recognized leader in the global design community. Recognized for her design leadership and commitment to design excellence in hospitality, entertainment and restaurant design, Daroff is also celebrated for her achievements in corporate workplace, aviation terminals and museum design.
A Philadelphia native and proud graduate of Moore College of Art & Design, Daroff founded Daroff Design Inc in 1973. Her prestigious client list has included Comcast, NBCUniversal, Universal Studios, Disney, Brandywine Realty Trust, Mohegan Gaming Authority, MGM, Loews Hotels, Marriott, Hilton, St. Regis, Ritz Carlton, Sony and Viacom, John F. Kennedy Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, Newark Airport and Moore College of Art & Design.
She is a recipient of numerous national design awards, including the prestigious “Designer of the Year” award by Contract Magazine, the “Design Giant” award by Interior Design Magazine, and the coveted Hospitality Platinum Circle Hall of Fame award by HD (Hospitality Design Magazine). Formerly, she was a principal of Nelson Worldwide, an architecture, interior design, graphic design and brand strategy firm.
Daroff regularly mentors students and recent graduates aspiring for careers in the design professions. She has been a guest speaker at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Philadelphia University’s Architecture and Design Series, the Rotterdam Film Festival, HD Asia in Hong Kong, (NEOCON X-Chicago), HD Boutique in South Beach Florida, HD Las Vegas and Temple University’s League for Entrepreneurial Women.
Being a successful female business owner has also won Daroff the Pennsylvania Governor’s Top 50 Women in Business Award and recognition by Philadelphia Business Journal as a Top Woman-Owned Business. Daroff has served on numerous Boards, was a member of the Art Commission during Mayor Ed Rendell's administration and is currently a board member of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office.
