Open Source Intelligence, or OSINT, is a set of methods used to conduct research using overt, publicly available resources. OSINT is a powerful framework for gathering intelligence about others, including organizations and companies, and it can be used in a variety of ways, from finding someone’s email address to finding vulnerabilities in our security systems.
This 90 minute workshop, hosted by Katy Molinaro, is a beginner’s-level introduction to OSINT. First, we’ll look at compelling examples of OSINT-based research by activist group Forensic Architecture. We’ll then explore some of the available resources and how to use them. Then we’ll test these methods on ourselves to discover what information about us, if any, is publicly accessible.
Katy Molinaro (she/they) is an MFA graduate student at Moore College of Art & Design. Her work is focused on digital presence at the intersection of surveillance capitalism and compassion.
