Join us for the opening reception celebrating Natalie Flor Negrón ‘11 in Moore's Alumni Gallery on Friday, October 3 from 5:30 - 9 p.m. The common thread through Negrón’s latest works is orderly chaos. Her stream of consciousness approach to composition brings about hidden thoughts, unexpected forms and surprising meanings. Influenced by the nature that surrounds her, Negrón uses those forms, patterns and colors in literal and abstract ways, finding that the impact and the effect of her work grow at larger scales.

Because my work stems from my stream of consciousness, the results are usually unexpected. Typically my work is done in two phases. I draw or collage at a smaller scale, and then enlarge those shapes, forms, and patterns. I'm exploring how I can integrate a third phase, using larger and smaller scales again to bring about new shapes, forms and ideas. Hopefully the result is the Gestalten effect, where the viewer is able to exist in multiple states at once, seeing the individual parts at different scales, and then taking in the entire piece as a whole composition.”

Natalie Flor Negrón '11 is a born-and-raised, Philadelphia-based mixed media artist. She attended Moore College of Art & Design where she gained her BFA in 2D Fine Arts and excelled in her mural arts and mixed media art courses. Working summers at her father's sign shop in North Philly exposed her to the art of printing, cutting and installing vinyl commercially, which she adapted into use for her installation art. She makes reference to both the man-made and natural world, classic printmaking techniques, graffiti and industrial materials with nods to her Puerto Rican and Irish heritage. Her portfolio varies from commercial murals, street art, prints and drawings to mixed media installations — all following the same theme of nature, graphic patterns, bright colors and bold line work. Negrón's pieces present an energetic collection of work with a captivating style.

Be sure to experience our other Fall exhibition, Michelle Lopez: Pandemonium, opening Friday, October 3.
