About MEPA:

The Maurice English Poetry Award (MEPA) was established at the time of his death and made possible the continuation of his commitment to poetry. In addition, from 1985-2005, the MEPA was presented annually for a distinguished book of poetry published in the preceding year by an author in his/her sixth decade of life. From 2006 to 2016, MEPA co-sponsored readings with the Storm King Art Center. Additionally, in 2012 MEPA co-sponsored a special reading by Yusef Komunyakaa, Tan Lin, Paul Muldoon, and Brenda Shaughnessy amid large-scale steel sculptures by Mark di Suvero at Governers Island. In 2017 the American Irish Historical Society and The Rosenbach Museum and Library invited the MEPA to co-sponsor poetry readings from 2018-2019. No readings occurred in 2020-2021 due to Covid-19. In 2022 the MEPA reading was solely hosted by The Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia. From 2023-2024 MEPA readings have been held at the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.
