Laura Pegram is the founding editor and publisher of the award winning literary magazine, Kweli Journal, and the director of the Kweli Color of Children’s Literature Conference, the nation’s largest conference for BIPOC creators of children’s and YA books. In 2020, the Children’s Book Council selected Laura Pegram as one of the winners of the CBC Diversity Outstanding Achievement Awards. “The awards are given each year in honor of children’s book professionals who have helped create and promote diverse titles for young readers and who foster more inclusive employment practices within the industry.” She is also the author of the children's book Daughter's Day Blues.  Pegram was mentored by the poet activist June Jordan, who taught her that the sky was her ceiling.
