Who are your favorite artists?
I recently discovered the work of Bisa Butler and I am now obsessed. I love the photography of Ansel Adams. My two favorite choreographers are Aszure Barton and Ronald K. Brown, and my favorite singer-songwriter is India.Arie.
What is your favorite thing about Philadelphia?
Wow, choosing one thing is tough! But I would say the history, Old City, the amazing food and great restaurants, and most of all, the people.
What kind of involvement or engagement would you like to have with Moore students and alumni?
As much as possible! I look forward to getting to know our students, seeing their work, learning about who they are and what is important to them, and working together to make Moore the best place for students it can be.
I am eager to connect with our network of incredible alumni—to hear how their Moore education has shaped them and to see the impact Moore has made on the world, through their work and deeds. I hope we will have many opportunities for our alumni to come back to campus and to connect with current students, and for Moore to continue to support them in their careers and lives.
Do you have any hobbies?
Although I am a bit embarrassed to say this to the Moore community of artists, I have always secretly wanted to be an interior designer. I love crafting interiors in my home and the homes of friends. To me, it’s like choreography about color and movement and proportion. I am always working on my spaces: changing paint, finding cool thrifted pieces, etc.
I also have a lifelong yoga practice, enjoy spending time outdoors walking, am a voracious reader, and will indulge in a good Netflix binge watch when I can.
What is your favorite ice cream or other sweet treat?
For most of my life, it’s been classic mint chocolate chip, but in the last few years I have shifted my allegiance to salted caramel. I do love a good piece of cake.
What is your go-to karaoke song?
I am one of the worst singers in the world…but that said, I will definitely belt out “Respect” by Aretha Franklin or “Give Me One Reason” by Tracy Chapman.
What excites you the most about leading Moore?
Moore’s history of excellence; its focus on preparing women and nonbinary students for successful careers built around their creativity and artistry; and its emphasis on developing leaders…all of these attributes make Moore unique in the creative higher education landscape and uniquely poised for an incredible next chapter. The opportunity to lead a school with this potential for impact, on our students and on the world, is absolutely thrilling.
Moore is a place that is loved by its community, and the sense of energy, creativity and connection that I felt on campus was inspiring.
If Moore had a mascot, what would it be?
That’s a tough one! It would need to be an animal with creative capacity, so I think it should be a bird! They design and build beautiful, functional nests, so they are creators, but they also have the ability to take flight and soar, seeing the world from a unique perspective—which is what artists and designers help us all to do.
