Join a vibrant community of art educators from across the country for a transformative week of in-person art-making, reflection, and professional growth. The Summer Artist Educator Residency at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia offers dedicated studio space, hands-on workshops, and up to 40 hours of professional development—designed specifically for creative educators. This immersive, week-long experience empowers you to reconnect with your studio practice, build lasting peer networks, and return to the classroom inspired, refreshed, and recharged.

- Register and choose your preferred studio space and workshops online
- Complete your registration by submitting your nonrefundable $150 deposit. We strongly recommend submitting as soon as possible as this program sells out each year and space is limited. Deposits will be accepted through April 15, 2026.
- Submit your tuition payment prior to May 15, 2026. The sooner you submit, the more likely you are to receive your preferred studio and workshop selections!

PROGRAM AMENITIES
Experience all the best parts of being an art student again in Moore's immersive collegiate environment featuring critiques with instructors, live demos, workshops, an invigorating speaker series, and the opportunity to exhibit work at an exclusive open studio night event for friends and family to attend. Participants also receive a FREE year-long pass to attend art education conferences at Moore for an additional 10 professional development hours.

Take your studio and teaching practice to the next level while accruing up to 40 PA Act 48-eligible professional continuing education hours! Pennsylvania certified teachers receive Act 48 hours and out-of-state teachers receive documentation of professional continuing education hours. Tuition includes 24-hour studio access, professional instruction, professional development hours and catered lunches.
Moore College of Art & Design is a Pennsylvania Act 48 Approved Provider and all credit courses offered by the College satisfy Act 48 regulations. To request that your hours be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, please check the Act 48 box and provide your PPID on the registration form.
The Summer Artist Educator Residency offers a dynamic selection of workshops each year, designed to inspire, challenge, and expand your creative practice. Past offerings have included everything from plein air painting along the Schuylkill River trail and figure drawing sessions, to printmaking demos, photography explorations, expressive arts healing, and art + activism walking tours. Whether you’re deepening your studio work, experimenting with new media, or exploring the city’s vibrant arts landscape, our workshops provide hands-on experiences, expert guidance, and opportunities to connect with fellow artists.
Residency attendees have the option to live on campus for an additional fee. Rooms are suites with two double-occupancy bedrooms and a shared bathroom in Stahl Hall, located on Moore’s campus, right next to classroom studios and facilities.
Optional short-term housing for resident educators is available on campus at an exclusive discounted rate of $676 ($96/night). If you would like to book housing for the duration of the program for this additional fee, please pay online or reach out to our team at ce@moore.edu or call 215.965.4030.

Commuters Welcome: Local participants within traveling distance to the campus also have the option to commute from home.
Catered lunch is included Monday - Friday! Sage Dining Services creates a variety of delicious meals for residency attendees, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Please contact General Manager, Michele O'Neill at moneill@sagedining.com to discuss any special dietary needs.
DINING HALL HIGHLIGHTS
- Menus feature whole grains, fresh vegetables, lean meats and seafood
- Milk is free of hormones and antibiotics
- Vegetarian and vegan offerings served daily
Sustainability initiatives include: use of locally sourced products, including produce, bakery items and dairy products; trayless dining with minimal use of disposables, and cooking grease recycling.
FACILITIES
Residency attendees are also invited to enjoy Moore’s gaming lounge, café, vending machines and, for those who choose to stay on campus, free laundry facilities! Don't forget to BYOD (Bring Your Own Detergent)!
Resident Educators work in large, fully equipped and natural light-filled studios with professional visual artists. They receive ample time in these studios, in order to develop finished works and portfolio pieces. Evening studio time is a fun and motivational space for the Residency cohort to work and interact.
The following student services are available to Residency attendees:
Independent studio time and organized evening and weekend activities—such as optional field trips to galleries, city tours, live model sessions and art supply shopping—enrich the residency experience and complement coursework. Weekends are unscheduled, to provide time for extra studio time.
The surrounding city of Philadelphia is both intimate and completely accessible. Moore is located in the heart of it all, on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, surrounded by world-renowned museums, restaurants, shops and other attractions, as well as the Schuykill River and scenic Fairmount Park—perfect for sketching, exercising, and socializing with new friends.
Residency attendees receive the exclusive invitation to become referrers for student scholarships for pre-college programs at Moore College of Art & Design.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
At this time, we are unable to offer financial assistance for the Summer Artist Educator Residency. However, many attendees are supported by professional development funding from their schools, and we are happy to provide program materials to support educators’ funding applications. We encourage applicants to plan accordingly and explore alternative funding options, such as grants, scholarships from other organizations, or professional development support through your school or institution.
The cost of this experience is $1,155 ($150 Deposit + $1,005 Tuition).
Tuition includes 3 graduate credits or 40+ professional development hours, 7 days of 24-hour studio access, including professional instruction, facilitator-led field trips, workshops, assignments, critiques and demonstrations. Tuition also includes exclusive access to Keynote Guest Speaker Series, catered lunches, networking opportunities, and more.
Convenient, on-campus housing is optional for an additional fee of $676.
Please note that art supplies are not included in the cost of tuition.
- Certified or non-certified Art Teachers from anywhere in the U.S.
- Teaching Artists working in public or private schools, non-profit organizations, or independently
- Full or part-time studio artists interested in exploring a career in art education
- International adults who have strong English-language skills.
- International adults whose first language is not English must submit TOEFL or SAT scores. Minimum TOEFL scores are 500 (paper exam); 173 (computer exam); or 61 (internet exam). Questions about the TOEFL or obtaining a student visa should be directed to Moore’s Admissions Office at enroll@moore.edu or 215.965.4015.
When registering, you'll select your preferred workshops. Please note that some disciplines fill up very quickly and not every discipline is offered year-to-year. To increase your chances of getting into your top-choice workshops, we recommend submitting your tuition payment as soon as possible!
Resident artists are required to provide their own art supplies for this program. Our team recommends bringing art supplies that you are excited to experiment and push your practice with. Our campus is located near Blick Art Materials, where Resident Educators can purchase additional supplies at their convenience. A suggested supply list will also be provided to all resident artists for optional workshops hosted throughout the week prior to the program.
Some materials NOT permitted in the studios at Moore, including: Turpenoid (only Gamsol is permitted), solvent washers, polyester resins, cobalt-based accelerators, and outside furniture. Please only use aerosols (spray paint, fixatives, etc.) in the walk-in spray booth on campus.
Please refer to your Studio Contract for a more detailed explanation of studio care, studio maintenance, use of hazardous materials, and health and safety.
Written notification of withdrawal must be submitted to the Continuing Education Department by email to ce@moore.edu. No refunds are to be given to participants asked to leave the Summer Artist Educator Residency for violations of policies or regulations.
Program costs are refunded according to the following schedule:
· Withdrawal prior to May 20: 100%
· Withdrawal prior to June 3: 70%
· Withdrawal after June 3: no refund
· Please allow 4-6 weeks for the processing of refunds
