Janell Wysock
Adjunct
Equipt with a strong sense of color and love for fine natural materials Janell Wysock designs one of a kind classic knit and woven statement pieces for women. Her main means of building fabric and communicating her sense of color is through weaving. She creates woven wall pieces, which embody lush natural materials, bold colors and unexpected shapes. Born just outside of Philadelphia Janell has always been fascinated with fashion and creating the fabrics that inform what is transformed into a garment. She began sewing with her Polish grandmother at the age of 5 and has eagerly learned many aspects of fashion and textile design since, incorporating many techniques into her current knit and woven line which at times carry over into the fine art woven wall pieces. Wysock attended Moore College of Art graduating in 2004. She then spent time as an assistant at Peters Valley School of Craft and dove deep into the handmade fine art and craft world showing her work at various fine art and craft shows and boutiques. From there she worked closely with the fashion community as a designer in residence with the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator. She continues to teach at Drexel University, Moore College of Art and Design and is the Director of Education with the PA Flax Project. Her biggest mission is to give space for the health of individuals through hands on work in creating textiles in sustainable ways and passing on those techniques to our younger generation by fostering interns and students alike, striving to lead a lifestyle that brings joy, inclusivity, and education to all.
