Gary Phillips

After spending 30+ years working as an illustrator, Gary Phillips now devotes himself to studio and plein-air painting, while taking time each spring semester to teach life drawing at Moore College of Art & Design.

Phillips' paintings are deeply committed to the process of seeing and working from life. When work from photos is necessary, they are supplemented with studies from life. This way of working allows a connection and passion which he finds missing when using photographs alone. He currently focuses on the people and land immediately around him.

Phillips resides in Green Lane, PA with his wife. They have two daughters and five grandchildren.
