Artist Statement
How is it that something we cannot articulate has been felt by people all over the world? My thesis project does not seek to answer this question; it seeks to celebrate it. The purpose of this project is to investigate the collective experiences between strangers and the unspoken connection all humans have through specific feelings. Each piece will seek to convey an obscure emotion but the viewer won't know the exact definition of the feeling until they read a corresponding postcard. The point of this multi-step process is to allow the viewer to feel the design before reading what they are supposed to experience. Everyone experiences happy or sad, but I want to push these limits by drawing on the conclusion that everyone has experienced things like kenopsia: The eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that is usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet.
