Artist Statement
In developing my studio practice, the body has become a major focal point in my work, both mechanically and conceptually. And yet, the relationship I have to my body is a complicated one. It is home to my wounded spirit, frail mind and bruised intimacy; within it lies a myriad of traumas that impact both my art practice and my everyday life.
Bodies themselves are vessels containing physical and psychological worlds within: organs, blood, water, excrement, emotion, trauma, memory, illness. They are disgusting, fascinating, beautiful and intricate. My work explores the body through the lens of trauma and aims to transform these fragile, often fleeting elements into sculptural works of art. My thesis specifically seeks to address the symbiotic yet parasitic relationship our bodies and psyches have to trauma. A three-dimensional entity strung from the ceiling, here to haunt us all.
