Artist Statement

Lexi Rodriguez is a character artist and animator from Vineland, NJ whose work often focuses on quirky, fantasy themes as well as the magic that exists in real life relationships and conversation.

While my work during my time at Moore has mostly consisted of more fantasy-inspired themes, approaching my senior year led me to reminisce about what has gotten me to this point in my life. When I think about that, my four years in my high school marching band immediately come to mind. I grew so much as a person during that time, learned so many meaningful lessons and shared a space with some of the greatest, most inspiring people I've ever met. My time in band gave my days a purpose and a reason to keep going. Now that I'm closing another chapter in my life and looking back, I wanted to create something that symbolizes me coming "full circle," in a sense.

With my thesis, I wanted to pay tribute to those times. "Marching Memoirs" serves as an animated archive of stories told by the alumni of the Vineland High School Marching Clan, this being the pilot episode, with the voice of my fellow 2017 band alum, Vinnie Pontari.

A huge thank you to him for sharing his story and for all the people who lent a hand and supported me through this project, and who helped make this possible!
