Artist Statement
My work is a love letter to a haunted childhood. I infuse nostalgic scenes with eerie subjects to create a relationship between comfort and discomfort. Growing up, my life always seemed to involve the paranormal. It took the form of inexplicable phenomena in my home, ghost stories passed down by family members, unusual photographs, and childish fantasies. Despite their frightening nature, I hold these memories close to my heart. For me, the unsettling combines with soft and nostalgic sentimentality and reminds me of home and my family.
My collection is an intersection between oil painting and textile. I surround my paintings with plush fabric frames of varying shapes to convey these feelings of comfort. Each piece that I craft is a shrine to a memory. Every detail conjures the spirit of something familiar, yet otherworldly, and invites it to linger.
