Ulrike Müller, With Complements

Ulrike Müller, With Complements
Saturday, September 28th – Saturday, December 7th

Opening Reception: Friday, September 27, 5-8 PM

Curator Mia Locks organizes a two-part exhibition that includes a solo presentation of work by artist Ulrike Müller (b. 1971, Austria) alongside a group show that takes Müller's practice as a point of departure. Approaching painting without restricting herself to brush and canvas, Müller employs a range of materials, techniques and image formats including drawing, enamel on steel, collage, monotype and woven wool rugs. The group exhibition is organized around compositional strategies and methods of decision making, rather than around a shared subject matter or theme, opening up new possibilities for reading artworks together that might not seem immediately connected. Through this exploratory project, Locks emphasizes how the process of thinking about Müller's work has shaped her own curatorial methods in conceptualizing the group show—which includes work by artists Martin Beck, Medrie MacPhee, Dona Nelson and Deborah Remington, among others.
