Faculty Development

Faculty Grants, Sabbaticals, Merit, and Course Release Information

Each year, Moore College of Art and Design has faculty development and funding initiatives to support faculty work and development, including research, creative work, scholarship, and teaching, learning, and pedagogy. These include Sabbatical Leaves, annual Faculty Development Grants, Faculty Development-Course Release Time, Faculty Visibility Grants, and Merit Pay.

SABBATICAL

Who can apply? Ranked faculty with six (6) FTE years of service  
Criteria: Sabbaticals are granted for a period of one (1) semester or one (1) academic year to perform a specific project submitted for approval to the Faculty Development Committee 
The Faculty Development Committee will review and send recommendation to the Academic Dean by January 15 and recommendations to the President by January 31.  Decisions will be made at the February Board of Managers meeting.
A final report and presentation detailing the grant project will be submitted by the recipient in the first semester following completion of the grant project or sabbatical leave, or as soon thereafter as possible, and shall be addressed to the Academic Vice President/Dean with a copy to the Faculty Development Committee. A faculty member who does not submit a final report and presentation will not be eligible for a further grant with leave, unless an extension is granted by the Academic Vice President/Dean.
Deadline: Sabbatical forms and supporting documents should be submitted to the Faculty Development Committee by December 1 in the year prior to the academic year of the sabbatical.

MERIT REQUEST

Who can apply? Full-Time Faculty and Graduate Program Directors
Criteria: Merit awards will be given annually in recognition of exceptional performance of the duties and responsibility set forth in Addendum F of the Moore College of Art and Design/Moore Federation of Teachers Contract.
Merit awards shall be given principally for exceptional performance in professional/scholarly achievements, teaching effectiveness, and service to the college. For more information please see the contract.
Deadline: First day of classes of each fall semester
Guidelines: Faculty will submit their applications for merit awards through Interfolio. Please contact Rob Hughes (rhughes@moore.edu) to request that an application be created for you. COURSE RELEASE TIME

Who can apply? Full-Time Faculty and Graduate Program Directors
Criteria: Faculty are eligible to apply for one course release time in Fall or Spring AY 2019-2020 to pursue research, professional and creative work including exhibitions, publications, and other projects as indicated in the Moore College of Art and Design/Moore Federation of Teachers Contract 2017-2020, Article VI, 17, p. 16.
Faculty may apply for either 1 or 2 semesters of one course release time. The release time will be granted by the Academic Vice President/Dean with the recommendation of the Faculty Development Committee.
Deadline: February 15, 2019 for AY Fall 2019 – Spring 2020
Guidelines: Faculty will submit their applications for Course Release Time through Interfolio. Please contact Rob Hughes (rhughes@moore.edu) to request that an application be created for you. Applications will be sent to the Faculty Development Committee, who will send its recommendations to the Academic Vice President/Dean and applicants will be notified by mid-March.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT GRANT

In the academic year 2019-20, there is $6,000 available for Faculty Development Grants to support specific faculty projects.  For more information: Moore College of Art and Design/Moore Federation of Teachers Contract 2017-2020, Article VII.2, p. 17.
Who can apply? Full-time, Visiting, Adjunct Faculty with (2) FTE
Criteria: Development Grants are awarded to faculty who complete a specific project during May 15 of the current year to May 15 of the following year. Graduate Program Directors are not eligible to receive faculty development grants.
Deadline: April 1, 2019
Guidelines:  Full-time and Visiting Faculty will submit their applications for Development Grants through Interfolio. Adjunct faculty who wish to apply for the grant, please review the guidelines and complete the application found HERE. Submit one copy of your application form and any other supporting documents to the Academic Affairs Office by April 1, 2019. Copies will be forwarded to the Faculty Development Committee Members
Faculty members will be reimbursed for qualifying expenses related to their Faculty Development Grant after successfully completing their development project, and receiving approval of their receipts and final report. If the report and receipts are not received within the fiscal year, reimbursement cannot be guaranteed.

DEAN’S VISIBILITY GRANT

In the academic year 2018-19, there is $12,000 available for Faculty Visibility Grants to support faculty who participate in conferences, programs, or special seminars as presenters or attendees.
Who can apply? Full-time, Visiting, Adjunct Faculty with (2) FTE, and Graduate Program Directors
Criteria: Faculty who present at a conference will be the highest priority. (Please note this with a title and description of your presentation or paper on the application form.)
Faculty members who seek to attend a conference that supports Moore’s strategic plan will be a high priority. (Please note the strategic objective(s) and relevance of the conference.)
Faculty members who seek to attend a conference to enrich their professional work and/or teaching will be a priority.
Deadline: Rolling
Guidelines: Please fill out the Dean’s Visibility Grant Request Form which can be found HERE or on the website under the faculty tab – academic forms.
Once submitted, a decision will be made one week after receipt of the request.
