About the Speakers
White’s paintings speak to the beauty and color that can be found throughout the muted background of the city. Cathey shows influence of graffiti and street art throughout her work and plays with the idea of the constant changes that appear on city walls. This is shown through her layering technique. “When I look at the walls in Philadelphia, there is such a history; one story on top of another on top of another….”

Cathey hopes to continue making work that inspires people from every cultural, ethnic and economic background. She remains consistently inspired by her urban environment and the beauty that can be found within it. “Art should be for everyone. It is one thing that can bring us back to our childhood, the one place we never hesitated to be ourselves."
Kia leads Determined by Design, a minority + veteran-owned business. Bringing Design Equity™ to affordable and supportive housing. Her firms’ practice focuses on making interior design a standard for all and not a luxury for a few.
