Young artists in High School Classes become part of a community dedicated to developing interests and abilities in a collaborative and exuberant atmosphere. In addition to building a foundation of creative and technical skills, courses foster the development of imagination, self-confidence, and individual style.

FALL SESSION COURSES:

Portfolio Preparation

Are you interested in building a portfolio for college admissions review? Then this class focusing on skill-building exercises in still life, landscape and the human figure – as well as presentation – is for you. Develop a personal vision and learn what is expected in a portfolio.

Fashion Essentials Bootcamp

In this exciting course, you will learn about fashion styles and designers in preparation for fun hands-on assignments forecasting and visualizing fashion trends. Concluding with basic sewing skills, you will be able to combine all you have learned in the construction of a simple garment. A great introduction to Moore’s Fashion Design program!

Drawing Essentials

Develop the perceptual and pictorial skills that are key to communicating confidently as a visual artist in any field. Using a rich range of media including graphite, charcoal, and conte crayons, you will experience the fun and satisfaction of drawing while learning basic principles related to all art and design.

Manga Illustration & Beyond

Discover the many variations of Japanese manga while you develop a distinctive story featuring your unique comic characters. Projects include exploring character design, figure invention, page layout, story structure, basic rules of perspective and classic comic book storytelling.

Jewelry & Metalsmithing

Develop skill and confidence in the basic techniques of fabricating jewelry and small metal sculptures with the goal of creating pieces that are expressive of your individual ideas. Construction and finishing skills include soldering, sawing, drilling, filing, sanding and polishing. Tools are provided.

Interior Design

In addition to developing drawing skills, you will learn to design interior spaces through an overview of space planning and color selection as well as choosing materials, furniture and lighting.

Painting Studio

Learn the foundational techniques of painting in a light-filled studio as you explore color and composition to express your ideas about art. Using a range of paint media, you will develop an understanding of the relationship between color and light as you work from observed subjects such as still life and the figure or your imagination

Learn how to use the elements of fashion design as the basis for drawings inspired by the clothing of various cultures.  In creating your illustrations, you will also develop an understanding of trends, movements and designers in the world of costume and fashion

Digital Drawing Board

Learn to use your computer as a dynamic tool for creating amazing artwork using the potential of vector graphics. Beginning with the use of Illustrator tools to make cartoons and posters, you will experiment with digital drawing and graphics illustration to create original images for screen or print.

Develop strong composition skills and learn to capture the essence of a pose through interpreting the human figure. Short sketches will lead to longer poses and the development of more complete, detailed drawings as you increase your observational skills and understanding of proportion, form and gesture.

Urban Photography

Explore a variety of city sights and learn the techniques, skills and principles for finding and capturing life as it happens and telling stories with images. Students should bring a digital camera to the first class.

Intro to the Graphic Novel

This introduction to the essential skills for designing and illustrating graphic novels will have you creating comics of any kind! You will learn how to invent believable and evocative environments, draw expressive anatomy, apply different approaches to effective storytelling, and design pages to develop mood and pacing.

You will have fun exploring different approaches to fashion design along with developing skills in styling, fabric selection, creating inspiration boards and professional draping techniques. You will learn how garments can communicate an individual’s personality and gain an understanding of style, color, form, and proportion in contemporary fashion.

Graphic Design

Develop skills in creating impressive graphic designs for real world applications such as posters, advertising, multimedia, and online. You will have fun using imagery, color, type and composition to express messages with individual style while learning visual communication principles valuable in many fields.

Gaming Design

Learn design and game development! Through concept sketching, animation and basic programming skills, you will build simple interactive frames. Hands-on projects explore specific game genres including arcade, action and narrative games. Programming experience is not necessary, but you should be computer literate and have some familiarity with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

Traditional Animation

Bring your sketches to life using traditional animation techniques for designing unique characters and fascinating visual narratives. You will have fun experimenting with 2D animation as you strengthen your perception and drawing skills. Focusing on the foundation of animation, the course will take you through the initial steps of storyboarding so you can become skilled at developing your ideas into a story plot with both words and images. 

Intro to Printmaking

Experience printmaking as a process-oriented medium that offers many options for dynamic and visual effects.  A powerful means for communicating ideas, printmaking allows you to take drawn or painted images and transform them.  Focusing on screen printing and wood block techniques, you will be encouraged to explore new materials and create personalized imagery.

Ceramics Studio

Become adept at the skills of wheel-throwing and hand-building while learning how to translate your ideas into three-dimensional works of art. Have fun experimenting with a variety of glazes and finishing techniques to complete your innovative creations, which will be fired in our professional kilns.
