"Legal Issues" is a recurring and rotating section to address various legal topics for creative entrepreneurs.
Moore College of Art & Design’s ROI (Resources. Opportunities. Inspiration.) program is excited to invite you to join us for our autumn on-campus event Creative Business Contracts. We’re hosting two legal experts and a creative business owner for a panel discussion on best practices for contracts (what to avoid, ways to protect yourself, and some stories). The panel discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and a networking round-table, when aspiring entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to network among themselves and with our panel members.
This event is open to current students and alumni who graduated after 2012. If you graduated from Moore prior to 2012, please email MooreROI@moore.edu.

Intellectual property is a hot topic in business. How do you protect your ideas? Should you trademark or copyright? Or are you possibly infringing on someone else's rights with what you're producing?
Our friends at the University of Pennsylvania Law School are offering to assist with some of these questions through The Detkin Intellectual Property and Technology Legal Clinic.
Cynthia L. Dahl, Esq., tells us Penn Law provides intellectual property consulting for free twice a year, and they have helped over a hundred start-ups, artists, and arts nonprofits in Philadelphia. Visit their website to see if your questions can be addressed, whether that be how to protect your trade secret or other legal concerns.

Whether designing your new logo, using another artist's work as inspiration or simply protecting your creation, it can be a tricky endeavor to tread the legal landmines of fair use, copyright infringement and the various protections offered by state and local entities. Moore has hosted attorney Melissa Dolin to address these topics, and the podcast of the talk can be found here. Know your rights, and know your limits.
