Each course creates a dynamic environment where students build self-confidence along with a foundation of creative and technical skills.

An impressive roster of instructors is led by Moore’s BFA faculty and certified art educators noteworthy for their experience, commitment and enthusiasm for teaching art and design to youth and high school students.

Course Guide for Fall 2020

Explore elements of design and foundational concepts of visual communication in this digital arts course. Edit, digitize, and create painterly imagery of your favorite artwork, logos, photographs, and typography. This course includes a discovery of influential digital art styles, techniques and related professional careers. Students express digital art skills through applications like Procreate using tablets. Beginners and intermediate learners are invited to learn the fundamentals of drawing. You’ll explore light and shadow, still-life drawing, life drawing, portraiture and landscape drawing. You will create a body of work that shows an enhanced understanding of subject and medium while experiencing the fun and satisfaction of drawing. 

Tuition: $505 | Saturdays, 9 am – 12 noon EST   

Are you fascinated by the realistic portraits you see in museums? Take this class and discover how to make refined, beautiful portraits with traditional drawing materials. Work with clothed models to further your observational and figurative drawing skills, learning to render realistic facial likeness and expression. You will learn how to draw portraits by focusing on proportion, balance, line, light and shadow. Your resulting artworks will make amazing additions to your portfolio. Tuition includes model fee.

Do you find yourself itching to style your friends’ outfits? Look no further, aspiring fashion designers—this is the place for you. Learn to stay on top of the most exciting fashion trends while exploring how designers set the tone for the world with contemporary fashion.

Develop strong composition skills and learn to capture the essence of a pose through interpreting the human figure. Short sketches will lead to longer poses and the development of more complete, detailed drawings as you increase your observational skills and understanding of proportion, form and gesture. Beginners, intermediate and advanced learners are invited to delve into the fundamentals of moviemaking in this class. Develop your voice as a filmmaker through cinematic storytelling, story development, photography, collaborative video projects and post-production. Students will learn the value and importance of scripts, visual design, subtext, staging of action and collaboration in the film production process.

Develop graphic design skills by creating impressive logos, branding, and marketable media designs for real-world clients! Aspiring entrepreneurs will enjoy learning to market their art by creating business cards, postcards, posters, advertisements, multimedia projects and Instagram graphics. Learn to use imagery, color, type and composition to express messages with individual style while learning visual communication principles that are valuable in many fields.

Crunchyroll fans, this one’s for you! Explore Japanese contemporary drawing styles to create anime characters of your own design. Begin your path to making manga with basic drawing techniques before moving to complex character and scene design. This is the perfect space for you to create your own characters and stories inspired by Japan’s colorful history of animation and graphic novel production.

Learn the foundational techniques of painting in a light-filled studio as you explore color and composition to express your creative ideas. Using a mix of acrylic and watercolor, you will develop an understanding of the relationship between color and light as you work from observed subjects such as still life and the figure.

Silkscreen printing is one of the most popular printmaking techniques and has been used for more than 100 years by artists such as Andy Warhol, Shepard Fairey and Mickalene Thomas. In this class, you’ll learn how to make your own prints on T-shirts, tote bags, paper, and clothing. This course is a perfect fit if you love designing your own logos, text and images.

Portfolio Prep focuses on portfolio readiness and presentation, diving deep with skill-building, exercises in still life, landscape and the human figure. It’s a perfect fit for future art students who want to develop a personal vision as they embark on their college experience.
