Philadelphia, PA – This year marks two anniversaries: The Benjamin Franklin Parkway turns 100 and it is the 25th year for Moore’s Jumpstart Fashion Show, so what better way to honor these two milestones than to combine them. Will the College’s fashion designers create garments that are inspired by the Swann Fountain? The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s iconic steps? Rodin’s The Thinker? The Champs-Élysées-inspired Parkway or another sculpture or structure on the magnificent mile? Come and find out on October 3 when the runway will be filled with their creations, all inspired by The Parkway’s 100th anniversary. Sponsored by Century 21 Department Store, Jumpstart Fashion Show 2017 will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 7 pm, in Moore’s Great Hall, 20th Street and The Parkway. Admission is free, but registration is recommended at jumpstart2017.eventbrite.com. Selections from Jumpstart 2017 will be exhibited in The Galleries at Moore from November 18 – January 6 and featured in Century 21’s Market Street window for a month following the show.
Why is it called Jumpstart? For the past 25 years, students in Moore’s BFA Fashion Design program have been charged with conceptualizing, designing and constructing garments for the fall fashion show within three weeks. In the past, this always fun and always innovative event has featured garments inspired by urban camouflage, Brave New World, the Philadelphia Flower Show, tulle used to create tutus for the Pennsylvania Ballet’s ballerinas, recyclable materials, the fashions of Patrick Kelly and, this year, it is Parkway 100.
