Green Initiatives

Environmental Task Force

Launched in 2005, Moore College of Art & Design’s Environmental Task Force raises awareness of and promotes responsible eco-friendly practices to the Moore Community through educational programs and sustainable building initiatives.


  • Sage Dining plants herb garden to produce fresh ingredients for menus.
  • Sage Dining has implemented the use of reusable dinnerware for the cafeteria.
  • Student-run Art and Book Supply Swap at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters
  • Use of compact fluorescent bulbs in place of incandescent campus-wide.
  • Installation of new energy efficient windows in Stahl Hall and Sarah Peter Hall.
  • Installation of state of the art air conditioning systems in Sarah Peter Hall,  cafeteria/woodshop/Stahl Hall.  Units include significant enhancements to ventilation systems and include energy recovery technology for air exhausted from buildings. New HVAC systems were installed in the Great Hall and Fox Commons
  • Energy Management software/hardware systems installed in Wilson, Sarah Peter and administrative areas and Penthouse of Stahl Hall.
  • Campus-wide recycling program for plastics, paper, bottles and cans.
  • Environmental assessment completed in 2005 which led to dramatic reduction in the use of environmentally harmful materials and cleaner practices for use and disposal of solvent, fluorescent light fixtures, etc.
  • Systematic, required training for all new students and faculty on use of and disposal of art and design materials.
