Rose Kampert

Rose M Kampert received BFA in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute, New York, in Painting and Drawing, considering it a major asset to her future in fashion.  During her tenure there she took all available electives in fashion design. As a student, she designed, produced and sold garments and accessories at boutiques in and around SoHo. Upon graduation in 1984, she entered the fashion industry where she has thrived since. After working for several 7th Avenue companies, she launched, designed and manufactured under the LOVE NYC label for 12 years, enjoying extensive editorial press and retail success. Publications that consistently covered LOVE NYC include: Harper’s BazaarVogue, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, WWDRolling Stone and Surface. After starting a family in 2000, she began teaching fashion design at Pratt Institute and the Art Institute of New York while continuing to design and make patterns for scores of companies and private clients on a freelance basis.

Artist Statement

I see Fashion as a form or extension of art closely connected with the work of fine art, theater, film, dance and politics.  I also value quality of craft, an aspect deeply rooted in our history and culture.  My teaching has always been informed by my knowledge and engagement in current contemporary culture and how fashion relates, speaks to, and reflects this culture.  I bring this knowledge to my own work and my teaching.  My students have welcomed my broad experience, interest, and engagement in art and social culture.  The creative culture and methods I consistently keep abreast of, as well as the contacts I continue to develop, excites and motivates my students to make exceptional work.
