Summer Residential Program for High School Students

A 4-week pre-college residential program

June 21 – July 18, 2015

The Summer Art & Design Institute is open to young women who have just completed their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school. The Institute allows dedicated students who are passionate about their artwork to spend four weeks developing their skills as artists and designers.  Benefits of the Summer Art & Design Institute include:

  • Classes modeled after Moore’s bachelor of fine arts program and taught by BFA faculty.
  • Development of finished work for your formal college admission portfolio.
  • 3.0 college credits upon successful completion of the program.
  • Becoming a part of an incredible like-minded community of young women artists.

Students choose a studio concentration emphasizing one of four areas:

  • Animation & Illustration
  • Fashion Design
  • Fine Arts: Painting & Printmaking
  • Photography

In addition to the specialized studio classes, optional weekly lectures, evening drawing and basic design workshops are offered.  The lectures and workshops support students’ development of a strong portfolio for college with an emphasis on observational drawing, figurative drawing and basic design. All of these subjects are designed to prepare students for the college admissions process. Students are taught and guided by Moore BFA faculty who are professionals in their fields and committed to sharing their knowledge of art and design.

Moore College of Art & Design is located in the heart of Philadelphia’s museum district on The Benjamin Franklin Parkway.  The Rodin Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Franklin Institute and the Academy of Natural Sciences are just steps away.  The institute takes advantage of the wealth of artistic and cultural opportunities at our door step with after-class activities and off-site class excursions that support the curriculum and the program experience.  Artists’ studio tours, museum and gallery visits expose students to Philadelphia’s large and vibrant arts community.

How do I enroll?

Enrollment is a simple process. There are no admission tests or portfolio requirements.  The Summer Art & Design Institute is open to any student who has completed her sophomore, junior or senior year of high school by June 2014.  The Summer Art & Design Institute also welcomes international applicants.
