The World, the Flesh and the Devil directed by Ranald Macdougall and staring Harry Belafonte
Presented by: Matt Kalasky
This rare 1959 post-apocalyptic drama stars Harry Belafonte, Inger Stevens and Mel Ferrer with a beautifully shot and ghostly deserted New York City providing the backdrop for a “last-persons on earth” love triangle. The film takes head-on the racial tensions of its pre-Civil Rights movement era and was boycotted by several movie theaters in the south for its simmering on screen interracial romance. A city summer movie classic for anyone looking for humanity at the end of the world.
