This FIDER accredited program prepares students for the professional practice of interior design. Persons who have bachelor’s degrees in other disciplines often use this program to change careers.
The curriculum stresses the broad intellectual development and fundamental skills required to become a creative and responsible interior designer. As do BFA candidates, post-baccalaureate students complete 61.5 credits in major courses and an internship.
Applicants are expected to have an undergraduate degree with a GPA of at least 3.0. Admitted students may begin the program in the fall term only. Most classes meet during the day and the program can be completed in three years. Upon completion of the program and a two-year work requirement, designers become eligible to take the NCIDQ exam (National Council for Interior Design Qualification). Passing the exam is a requirement for professional memberships such as ASID and IIDA, and to be a Certified Interior Designer in many states.
