Admissions Preparing Your Portfolio
Preparing Your Portfolio
All applicants should submit a portfolio of 12-20 pieces of original art completed within the past year. Your portfolio should reflect your development in the areas of drawing, two-dimensional or three-dimensional design, composition and color.  Some examples of observational drawings must be included. “Drawing from direct observation” specifically means drawing from what you see in real life, the objects and or spaces directly in front of you. It is essential that you use your own creativity and judgment in interpreting a still life, landscape, portrait, or a figure on paper or canvas. Drawings that are derived from photographs or from another person’s artwork are not considered to be observational drawing. The balance of the portfolio may consist of artwork completed in any media and style demonstrating a consistent body of work.

The most important part of the application process, the portfolio review, usually takes place during the personal interview. A personal interview is required of all applicants living within 100 miles of Moore. If you live over 100 miles from Philadelphia, slides or digital images may be submitted with a brief statement identifying each piece. You may also have your portfolio reviewed by an admissions counselor or faculty member during a National Portfolio Day event near you. However, a campus visit is strongly recommended for all applicants.

Portfolio Option II:

First Year students who plan to enter Moore directly out of high school and have already submitted an application, acceptable transcripts and SAT scores, may choose the portfolio option II. Upon approval, applicants who choose Option II will be accepted into the BFA program provided they successfully complete the Summer Art and Design Institute (SADI) program.

SADI is a four-week intensive summer program with coursework in Portfolio Development, Life Drawing, and Basic Design, as well as a fine Art or Fashion Design studio concentration. Upon successful completion of the program, students will enter the BFA program and earn three college-level studio elective credits. A prospective student may complete the SADI program in the summer after their junior or senior year of high school.

Applicants, who wish to be considered for Portfolio Option II, are required to submit sample artwork of their choosing and a written request to the Director of Admissions.

TRANSFER PORTFOLIO
Transfer applicants seeking advanced standing should be sure to include pieces from the college-level studio courses they have completed. Applicants with fewer than nine credits of college-level art courses should also submit artwork from high school or independent study.
