Open to the public and free of charge, The Galleries at Moore present a diverse range of innovative exhibitions, educational programs, and publications offering insights into the work of established and emerging regional, national, and international artists and designers. As a cultural leader, the Galleries provide a forum for exploring contemporary art and ideas enriching the artistic and intellectual climate of the college, the Greater Philadelphia community, and beyond.
The Goldie Paley Gallery, established in 1984, features solo and group exhibitions in a variety of media by national and international artists. It serves Philadelphia’s art community and the city’s diverse public at large, while acting as an important resource for Moore students and faculty. For example, The International Discovery Series, as part of the Paley Gallery programming, has featured major, first-time presentations and publications of international artists in the United States including: Artur Barrio, VALIE EXPORT, Terry Fox, Raymond Hains, Jörg Immendorf, Jean-Frédéric Schnyder, and Roman Singer.
Levy Gallery for the Arts in Philadelphia, founded in 1987, highlights the work of artists and arts organizations based in Philadelphia demonstrating Moore’s commitment to collaboration, artistic exploration and experimentation for both established and emerging talent in our community. As venues serving America’s only art and design college for women, the Galleries at Moore are also dedicated to presenting exhibitions by significant women artists and designers. Past exhibitions include: Jo Baer, Janet Biggs, Dara Birnbaum, Mary Cassatt, Jay DeFeo, VALIE EXPORT, Viola Frey, Marlene Dumas, Jacqueline Matisse, Alice Neel, Karen Kilimnick, Carolee Schneemann and Hannah Wilke. A vital link between the College and the community, The Paley and Levy Galleries also feature three student exhibitions per year and a Triennial exhibition of recent work by Faculty. Wilson Hall and Graham Gallery in Moore’s main lobby and Moore’s offsite exhibition spaces at the Kimmel Center and Lincoln Financial Field are dedicated to annually featuring work by Moore students, faculty, and alumnae.
