Moore's 2012 Graduate Commencement Speech

Moore College of Art & Design was proud to award five MFA in Studio Art, five MFA in Interior Design and 6 MA in Art Education students with their master’s degrees at graduate commencement on August 11, 2012. The inspiring address was given by curator Eileen Tognini.

Kate Bright (British, b. 1964) teaches at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London.  She studied at Camberwell School of Art and Goldsmith’s College, both in London.  She has shown frequently in England, had solo exhibits in Turin and Salamanca and was included in the British Council survey, Tailsliding that traveled to venues in Italy, Spain and Norway.  She has been represented by Locks Gallery since 2004 and her exhibit of new paintings at Locks on November 2.

Prof. Paul Hubbard, Graduate Program Manager of Studio Art at Moore College of Art & Design and Executive Board Member and Chair of the Perspectives Board Committee of the International Sculpture Center, presented the ISC’s Outstanding Educator Award to Professor Emerita of Temple University Winifred Lutz. (Philadelphia, PA) Lynne Horoschak, graduate program manager for the MA in Art Education with an Emphasis in Special Populations, has been invited to participate in The National Forum of Thought Leaders on the Intersection of Arts Education and Special Education, a forum addressing the need for a national agenda to deliver the arts to students with disabilities. The forum will take place July 26 – 27, 2012 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Alumna Laura Petrovich-Cheney (MFA 2011) has been awarded a residency with the Arctic Circle

Alumna Laura Petrovich-Cheney (MFA 2011) has been awarded a residency with the Arctic Circle for September 25th to October 13th, 2013 and will be a member of “The Arctic Circle 2013.”

Artists with a residency, with architects, engineers and educators, travel aboard an ice-class expedition sailing vessel on a collaborative mission into the High Arctic. The vessel, a traditionally rigged Tall Ship, is equipped with work space, common areas and ample room for privacy and creativity. For more information go to http://www.thearcticcircle.org

Moore faculty member Jennie Shanker awarded $70,000 grant from National Endowment for the Arts

MFA in Studio Art faculty member Jennie Shanker and the Center for Discovery, Inc., has been awarded a $70,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The grant supports CENTERpieces, a series of site-specific artworks created in abandoned buildings and empty lots throughout the Catskills region. Curators Julie Courtney and Shanker will work with artists Allan Wexler, Richard Torchia, Shay Church, and Ann Hamilton to develop each site. Artists will have the opportunity to work freely to create works that celebrate the history, community, and vitality of the area, and promote tourism within the region.

Burren 2011

During the 2nd summer term, a required four-week international residency provides an intense studio immersion within a distinct cultural environment. During the residency, candidates gain access to international visiting artists not otherwise available in the United States. In addition, candidates examine visual art and culture specific to the region and their influence on past and contemporary art in a seminar entitled “Art History at Burren: Time and Place.” Candidates are provided an opportunity to reflect upon the Burren experience and to prepare for a mid-program review in a two-week studio intensive at Moore immediately following the residency at Burren.
