YOUNG ARTISTS WORKSHOP

GRADES 1 - 4

 

Young artists in Classes for Grades 1-4 learn to explore, imagine, and discover in their own unique ways. Courses encourage creativity and problem-solving along with basic skills development. A nurturing environment ignites the imagination, encourages invention, and builds confidence.

  • Classes are Saturdays from 9-12 and 1– 4 pm
  • Students have morning and afternoon breaks as well as supervised lunches for which they may bring their own or purchase in the dining hall.
  • Choose according to your fall 2016 grade

PAINTBOX

Young artists share the joy of discovery while exploring the creative possibilities of color and paint for expressing ideas, stories and images of their world. Students will experiment with mixing colors, brushwork and composition and be introduced to famous artworks as inspiration for their own compositions.

ART IN 3D
9 am – 12 pm

Tuition $500
Young artists enjoy creating unique three-dimensional artwork as they experiment with how their structures can exist in space. Each week the work of famous artists such as Calder and Degas will be looked at for inspiration, and new materials will be used to form, bend, carve, mold and build expressive sculptures.

ART ART & NATURE DISCOVERIES
1 pm – 4 pm

Looking to the natural world for inspiration, young artists explore the intersecting world of art and nature and use their discoveries as the basis for creative projects. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of forms and art-making materials as they build basic art and design skills. 

INTRO TO DRAWING & SCULPTURE

Young artists develop drawing skills in combination with creating sculptures while working with a variety of stimulating drawing media and building materials such as wood, clay, wire, plaster and recycled items.

ADVENTURES IN DRAWING

Exploring the magic of drawing through projects that utilize a rich array of materials, young artists build confidence in using their observational and imaginative skills. Exciting activities in a nurturing environment emphasize experimentation and fun.

MOSAICS & TILES
9 am – 12 pm

Tuition $500
Beginning with the creation of a variety of mosaic designs, young artists enjoy creating mosaic masterpieces through the fun process of adhering tiles to a variety of objects. At class end they will have a collection of illustrations as well as a piece of mosaic art.

ART LAB

Young artists explore possibilities for self-expression in two- and three-dimensional projects that build confidence in a variety of art media, concepts, processes and skills. Exciting activities in a nurturing environment stress experimentation and fun with drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

CARTOONING & CHARACTER DESIGN

This course invites young artists to have fun while developing skills in storytelling, sequence drawing and character design. Inspired by the rich tradition of cartooning found in children's books, comic strips and animation, students develop drawing skills bringing their most whimsical ideas to life .
