One of the major art reference libraries in the United States, the Museum Library houses approximately 200,000 books, auctions catalogues, and periodicals dating from the sixteenth century to the present. Reflecting the Museum's rich and distinctive collections, the Library's holdings focus on European, American, and Asian Paintings and Sculpture, Modern and Contemporary Art, Arms and Armor, Furniture and Decorative Arts, Costume and Textiles, and Prints, Drawings, and Photographs. The Library also subscribes to a growing collection of electronic resources.
The museum has on-site computer research capabilities for use by scholars and researchers.
The Archives are a unique and highly important research facility, documenting the development of the fine arts and art education in America.
The Rosenbach is home to one of the nation's great collections of rare books and the world’s largest collection of portrait miniatures.
The Edward M. David Library comprises 2,000 volumes on art techniques, art history and artists. Archival material on local and regional artists is available. The Registry’s slides cover 1000 years of painting, sculpture, printmaking and the decorative arts.
The library consists of approximately 5,000 volumes, primarily related to the history of art and horticulture.
Museum Library includes unique resources related to a variety of American art and artists. The Library contains approximately 3,500 volumes and approximately 22,000 additional items, including portfolios and scrapbooks, films and videotapes, sound cassettes and phonograph records, historic calendars and posters, exhibition posters and brochures, photographs, ephemera such as clippings, tear sheets, book jackets, and archival materials related to various artists. The reference room features books, exhibition catalogues and other printed materials relating to American art history and the Museum's history.
