ABSTRACT DRAWING WORKSHOP
Here’s your chance to pick up a pencil or some charcoal and allow form and line to
direct your composition. Learn how material, process and investigation of form and
space can create dynamic abstract work.
Instructor: Adjunct faculty Robert Goodman teaches at Moore in the fi ne arts
department. In 2011, he exhibited in Flirting with Abstraction at the Woodmere
Art Museum.
BATIK
Batik is an ancient form of decorating fabrics using wax resist. Following a
demonstration, you will use brushes and other tools on stretched silk to create
intricate and colorful designs by applying molten wax and dyes to fabric. Focus will
be on process and use of materials.
Instructor: Laura Pritchard is known for her mastery of the ancient Indonesian
process of batik using wax resist and dyes. She teaches this technique at Woodmere
Art Museum and Main Line Art Center and is represented by Rosenfeld
Gallery, Philadelphia.
JEWELRY
Learn to make a pair of drop earrings with sterling silver ear wires and multiple
attachments. You will design, texture and color the attachments as you wish – they
can be “switched-out” from the ear wires for a different look. Copper discs one day,
brass squares the next!
Instructor: Dawn Bergmaier creates hand-made sterling jewelry inspired by clean
lines of industrial design fi nding order and clarity in form and shape. She teaches at
Moore and area art centers.
FABLASTIC
The ordinary plastic bag is an icon of convenience. It is also an environmental
scourge, but it doesn’t have to be this way! In this class, you will upcycle plastic bags
into fun accessories and wearables with simple weaving and fusing techniques. You
will bring creative solutions to plastic waste by recycling the ubiquitous plastic bag!
Instructors: Janell Wysock ’04 and Josette Bonafi no have collaborated on a fl oating
installation of thousands of woven bags for Design Philadelphia. Wysock is a textile
artist, creator of handmade fashions and a teacher. Bonafi no is co-founder and
executive director of MYX (Multicultural Youth Exchange), an art-based, educational
nonprofi t dedicated to helping the youth explore cultural diversity and social issues.
