I established Determined by Design, LLC last year, a interior design firm specializing in multi-family and hospitality design. I'm still actively involved with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and have been appointed to their National Board as a Director at Large. I also joined the Board of Directors for Room to Rebloom, a nonprofit organization that provides design services and other resources to women who have been victims of domestic violence rebuild their lives. I am pursuing my Master's in Interior Design at Corcoran College of Art & Design.
My design process starts and ends with two major factors, a strong concept and people. Both are easily forgotten in the process or details of a project. But for me, a strong concept that is carried throughout a space enhances the user experience.
One of my favorite memories at Moore was Frank Hyder analyzing what a single line I drew said about me in my basic drawing class. It frustrated and challenged me at the same time but made me such a better artist. Also, being a student leader, as a Resident Assistant I was connected to students and staff I may not have been exposed to through my curriculum. I was inspired and learned from the entire community at Moore. Being around such amazing leadership drives me today to be not just a leader, but a mentor as well.
My advice to current and future Moore students is not to lose sight of your creative drive and goals. It's easy to lose your passion while trying to find a job, juggle student loans and all the practical distractions of life after college. Continue to chase your dreams not the dollar and everything else will fall into place.
