What I enjoyed most about my internship at the Institute of Contemporary Art was the variety of tasks I performed. I developed and learned skills about multi-tasking and the curator’s role. These skills are helping me shape a better idea about what type of curator I am interested in becoming, and what part of the gallery I am most interested in being a part of.
Working at the ICA, I earned that sometimes the most repetitive of tasks are really what forms the foundation of a large project, such as an exhibition. I never realized just how much detail and precision goes into the de-installation of a show. I have slowed down my thought process and taken the time to focus on every step of a project.
The benefits of having an internship are immeasurable. Interning is the first step in becoming part of the art world.
