Knight Internship Fellowship Recipient 2009

From my first day at the Women's Community Revitalization Project, I learned how much work goes into building and managing affordable housing in an urban environment.  I was able to work with the architect, builder, city officials, neighborhood development corporations, consultants and funding agencies.

I also had the opportunity to work with the Francisville Neighborhood Development Corporation (FNDC). I used my design skills to help them visualize some of their green space, and helped them organize neighborhood cleaning, tree mapping, vacant lot maintenance, and several flea markets. Through visual communication and organization, I was able to help them further their vision for neighborhood revitalization.

Interior Design has so many different applications, and through my internship I was able to get experience in a type of design that I find both challenging and extremely rewarding. I have been inspired to pursue a career in affordable housing design, advocacy, and urban community revitalization.
