Knight Internship Fellowship Recipient 2009
I chose Pennypacker Mills as my internship site for its intimate atmosphere and the wide variety of different activities. My main tasks involved cataloguing hundreds of prints, drawings, photographs, letters and other historical documents. I photographed and recorded general information about each object. I also worked on posters, signs and t-shirts to promote Pennypacker Mills’ Civil War Reunion, an annual special event.
My internship forced me to step outside of my comfort zone, learn how to connect with visitors and discover new methods for discussing history and art with the public. I gained valuable insight into the many ways in which art is used to promote smaller institutions and discovered how my own artistic skills could best be used for this purpose.
