Because of their non-profit status, the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger did not have the funds to hire a professional graphic designer to work on their materials.
Consequently, as an intern I had the opportunity to design a great deal of projects, from ads and logos to posters and publications for their extensive public outreach campaign.
I was hired out of my internship for a paid position, and have been working on completely re-branding the organization. It was rewarding to see the ads I created be published in the Philadelphia newspapers.
In addition to my design work, I volunteered in the field at food pantries and conducted food stamp outreach at public health centers. One of the most valuable lessons I learned was that graphic design needs to be functional and effective, in addition to aesthetically pleasing.
