(Philadelphia, PA)Moore College of Art & Design congratulates the three winning designers of Fractionable the 17th Annual Jumpstart Fashion Show October 2, 2012 at the College.

First Place: Tatyana Chumakov
Second Place: Qiaoyi Chen
Third Place: Jasmine Bagley

Traditionally the first fashion show of the new school year, junior and senior fashion design students had to devise, design and showcase a garment based on a theme in one months' time.

In keeping with the theme of Fractionable, students created garments based on mathematical proportion using only plain unbleached muslin.

"The students were initially scared that the assignment was all about math, but they started studying symmetry and got excited by it," said Janice Lewis, professor and chair of fashion design.

Judges for this year's Jumpstart fashion show included Kaytie Johnson, director and chief curator, The Galleries at Moore; Lynn Palewicz, chair of foundation at Moore; Jessica Fischer, manager of Wardrobe Boutique and Rakia Reynolds, owner of Skai Blue Media, a boutique lifestyle PR firm in Philadelphia.

This year, the fashion department collaborated with student services and Career Wardrobe a community-based nonprofit organization serving women transitioning into the workforce by providing professional attire. Those attending Jumpstart brought new and gently used women’s apparel for donation to Career Wardrobe. Jumpstart garments will also be showcased at a Career Wardrobe fashion show fundraiser October 14 at the Rittenhouse Hotel.

If you missed the show Selections from Jumpstart will be on view in The Galleries at Moore from October 13, 2012 – January 12, 2013.
