(Philadelphia, PA) Moore's Spring Fashion Show 2009 brings “Bryant Park” to Aviator Park on The Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Saturday night, May 16 at 8 pm.

As part of Moore’s 160th Anniversary Celebration, fashion icon Mary McFadden will be on hand. McFadden worked with seniors on the eveningwear collection that will make up the grand finale of the evening and she will select her critic award winner at the show.

The annual fashion extravaganza features innovative collections and designs by senior, junior and sophomore students of Moore’s acclaimed fashion design department. Designs include swimwear, bridal and evening wear, children’s wear, menswear and sportswear. Seating is limited; advance purchase of tickets is recommended at The Art Shop, 215-965-8586.

This year’s theme is Myths & Legends, referring to the “myths” of the female superheroes in the swimwear collection and “legends,” referring to the “goddess” theme in the eveningwear finale.

Fashion show segments include:

• Swimwear (junior class) – "Sheroes," or designs inspired by female superheroes, a nod to Moore’s 160th anniversary as the first and only women’s visual arts college in the nation.
• Menswear/Sportswear (junior class) – A design "team" project with a road trip theme, "Share the Road." Students were assigned a location, i.e. The Road to Hana in Maui, HI, or Wine Country in California, and as a group worked on fabric, color and designs representing the theme.
• Childrenswear (sophomore class) – The theme is "It’s a BIG Game," and the designs reflect a safari concept.
• Senior collections (senior class) – Each senior over the course of a year designs a four- or five-piece collection for the market they want to enter when they graduate. The collection will open with “circus” inspired pieces by a senior interested in costume design. Two students created a lingerie line while another is doing a luxury equestrienne line. Ten seniors printed their own fabric for the collection. Others are knitting, crocheting, hand beading and embroidering their garments. A bridal collection with flower girls will close out the senior collections.
• Senior Eveningwear segment (finale) – Titled "Myths & Legends," students worked with guest critic Mary McFadden who selected a design from each senior. The designs were inspired by ancient civilizations.

The panel of judges and critics for the Spring Fashion Show 2009 also include many successful Moore alumnae: Toby Markulin ’89, owner of a New York-based swimwear company, “Peaches;” Lisa Parmer Ditty, a freelance designer from Harrisburg, PA; Lynette Kirk ’91, design director for LL Bean, Inc.; Erin Cabrey ’06 and Rebecca Allred ’95, designers for Lilly Pulitzer; and Frank Agostino, owner of Agostino in Bryn Mawr.

The fashion show sponsors are Charming Shoppes, Inc. and David’s Bridal.

General Admission tickets are $25. To purchase tickets, call The Art Shop at Moore at 215-965-8586 or visit www.moore.edu.
