Dom Streater on Project Runway Season 12, Episode 9

*Spoiler Alert*
Call her the Comeback Kid! Dom goes from the bottom to the top in this episode, in which the designers have to create a garment for a modern Southern woman, or more specifically, the Belk customer. As an added incentive, the winning look will be sold in Belk stores and on belk.com. Dom goes into the one-day challenge feeling confident, since she hails from a Southern family (New Orleans). As some of the other designers gravitate towards plaid fabrics, Dom opts to go a different route. Frustrated at being “safe” nearly every challenge, she decides to stay away from prints, opting instead to design a colorful, minimal dress that might impress the judges. Unfortunately, it has the opposite effect and Dom lands in the bottom three. Bradon wins the challenge. But there’s a twist! The judges, including Belk’s Executive VP of Private Brands, John Thomas, and “Supermarket Superstar” host Stacy Keibler, dislike the bottom three looks so much that they send those designers back to the workroom for an hour to create a new look or alter the garments they’ve already made to better reflect the goal of the challenge. They are each allowed to bring in one “safe” designer to help them with their garment. Dom chooses Helen and together they construct a totally new look, an asymmetrically draped, flirty dress in a black and white pattern. The judges sing Dom’s praises and John Thomas loves the dress so much that he decides to produce it for Belk along with Bradon’s dress! This means that Dom is a winner of the challenge, too! Jeremy is sent home for his new look, a bias-cut sleeveless beige dress.
