The paid internship experience at Moore is an important key to the career-focused education that leads to inspiring careers. The internship offers a first-hand experience in a professional setting in your field of study. Moore is the only art and design school to provide $1,000 paid internships for each student in every major.
Students in all majors except Art Education* are required to complete a 4.5 credit/240 hour internship, typically scheduled during the summer between the junior and senior year. In addition to completing the equivalent of a six-week full-time internship, you are also required to make a formal internship presentation to your department faculty and submit an internship journal, which includes a self-reflective essay. The number of hours you’ll spend in completing the summer internship, the follow-up presentation and other grading requirements slightly exceeds the minimum requirement of 3 hours of effort per credit.
Internships provide real world experience and an important opportunity to develop a professional network in preparation for a career in art and design. Moore's sizable network of alumnae and employers are helpful in recommending and offering challenging and exciting internships, many of which can lead to careers after graduation.
The Locks Career Center staff will assist you in identifying and securing internships that align with your skills, ambitions, and professional and personal goals. Internship placements must be pre-approved by the department chair and faculty supervisor and a signed contract must be filed with the Locks Career Center before the internship starts. The staff works closely with the faculty teaching the required internship preparation courses, providing a systematic approach for your search for an internship host site. The staff will provide help with your resume development, practice with business correspondence and mock interviews, as well as support before, during and after the interview process.
*Art Education majors must complete a 12-week supervised student teaching assignment that will be arranged through Art Education and the Liberal Arts Department.
